Have a Little Faith: A True Story
By Mitch Albom
see related
I cooked my first turkey.
                   It turned out okay.
Quiet Thanksgiving with friends and grandma's china.
No shopping. I hate shopping. Especially the chaos of Friday.
Just stripped the carcass and making soup for tomorrow.
Somehow I have become my mom.
Cut my index finger. That stinks.
There is much I can do using the one next to it, even tie my shoes.
Watching lots of football. I love football. Go Carroll College Saints!
You're the only team I root for that is above mediocrity. It is a nice reprieve.
Too much school work now. I am overwhelmed.
Tomorrow I MUST sit and work on it. Need to push off where I am stuck.
Get it done and I'll be very close to getting on to what I want to be studying.
                                                Get to work.
Glad beyond words that Jerry has been hired.
With a company that makes him smile and does cool stuff.
With insurance to cover his medically expensive wife. We are relieved and thrilled.
Don't ever hit your head. EVER. Gets expensive down the road.
And painful. And frustrating. And lots of other bad things.
Watching football today. Don't know who is playing. Don't care, really.
                                                                             I love football.
Church in the morning, football the rest of the day.
                                                                                I love football.
I love church too. Especially the people.

Fun times with my new power tool! Jerry got me a leaf blower for
my birthday; yes, I asked for one. I was getting the leaves out of our
rock garden and into the yard so I could 'vacuum' them with the
lawn mower. Flower beds ready for winter - Check! Lawn ready
for winter - Check! Leaves picked up for winter - Check! Porch swing
put away for winter - Check! I think I am actually ready for winter.

Birthday Eat Down Continues

The month is wrapping up, not only have I had a good time eating my favorite foods, but I need to get into high gear to finish before November 1. Here is what I have eaten since my last food post:

Red Licorice - given to me as a birthday gift, niiiiiice

Chicken in a Bisket Crackers - family size box was around for a week and a half after grocery shopping.

Popcorn - I have made some at night a couple times, love my popper and keeping it simple keeps it yummy - salt  and butter.

Stew - it is the crock pot right now.

Rye Bread - made a sandwich on rye at a conference I was at last week.

White Grape Juice - part of groceries a few weeks back. Not only does it taste good, but it doesn't stain the carpet when spilled.

Fruit Loops - Oh my this one has been fun! It has been decades since I last ate Fruit Loops. I would eat them when I was at sports camps in high school. I got a BIG box and have been eating them all month. I forgot how they slice up my mouth though.

Bananas - one of my favorite foods and I eat them a lot, they're a common item in our fruit basket.

Cliff's Bars - I have eaten a couple while doing radio communications for Search and Rescue. A quick, easy, none messy (please no goo on the microphones) food for on the go.

Belgian Chocolate - WOW! I have a big box that was a birthday gift, I wouldn't have thought this favorite food would have happened this month. Fun surprise.

Chocolates with Stuff inside - a birthday gift that I have relished.

Polish Sausage and Sauerkraut - I made it, too bad my hubby beat me to the left overs. Unfair.

Steak - grilled by my hubby with the special request to go light on the pepper. It was great. We've been given some game meat from friends and we've had some White Tail, elk, and Mule Deer steaks.

Stay tuned for the rest of the Favorite Foods eat down...

The Favorite Foods Eat Down has Started

A couple posts ago I announced I would be eating some of my favorite foods throughout October. I started early. Here is what I have eaten off the list so far...

Rootbeer - had one I had never had before while out with friends.

Red Seedless Grapes - Jerry was in charge of communications for a diabetes fundraiser and brought some leftovers home. Pounds and pounds of grapes! YUM

Nachos - we were over at a friend's place for dinner last Wednesday and nachos was the main course.

Pickle Barrel - (a local sandwich shop). I had my favorite cold PB sandwich while working radio for a Search and Rescue event. Thanks to my hubby for delivering!

Cherry Garcia Ice Cream - awaits in the freezer.

Nectarines - were part of the grocery list last week.

Chicken Noodle Dinner - canned soup my Grandma spoiled me with when I was knee high to a grasshopper. Jerry and I had it for dinner during our latest camping trip. We had been planning to replenish our pantry in the camper -- I have no idea how old some of our can goods are in there!

Borscht - I had it last Saturday while out with friends. One comment was, "Wow, it has some bite to it." The other comment was priceless but silent. The look on her face and her body contortions said, "I don't like it." Yep, tread lightly the first time you try it. I LOVE IT!

Fresh Kohlrabi - Jerry grew some in his garden and I have been eating it.

Cream of Broccoli Soup - is for supper tonight.

I have done a pretty good job going through my list and it isn't even October yet. Fun... I think I will crack into that box of Fruit Loops I have sitting here.

Retreat and My Leaf

Each fall Jerry and I take a weekend and have our own retreat. We discuss our goals for the year, how we did the past year and take stock of our relationship, etc. We did that this past weekend. The weather was very nice. We went to Thain Creek campground outside of Highwood, MT because Jerry spent a lot of summers there at a family cabin. The campground washed out in 05 and it is still closed so we camped along the creek in the same spot we've camped since the wash out. There has been lots of work done and everything is repaired, not sure why it was closed. But as long it is closed we camp free so can't complain about that.

For the past 16 years I have tried to catch a leaf as it
falls from its tree. This leaf is my 10th year of success!

Jerry took the dogs on a 10 mile hike one morning.
Jerry re-twisted his already sprained ankle and Arlo
is gimping around now too.

This cabin is near where we camp. Jerry's grandfather built it. Jerry's
father sold it in the early '70s. This is the first year that it has looked like
anyone has done anything with it. There is new fencing and the yard
has been mowed. There were signs of cleaning the inside too. It is good
to see life happening around it again.
