| Do wear your gloves when you get the mail - the mailbox is metal and so is the door knob to get back into the house.
Don't go out with wet hair - it will freeze and if it is long enough it will snap off.
Do look at the scenery - in the extreme cold everything is brighter and clearer - similar to the difference of high definition TV.
Don't sneeze - those ice crystals up there will cause you pain or put someone's eye out.
Do throw a mug of boiling water in the air - the water instantly becomes steam.
Don't allow your dog to die - digging a hole is nearly impossible, cremation is expensive, and storage until spring is problematic.
Do inhale deeply into your lungs - everyone should experience the sensation that follows at least once in their lifetime.

Tonight we are having chicken. Here is a little story that explains why the chicken in our pot is significant.
My husband has been looking for a job for a long time. He has had few interviews so our stress level had risen accordingly. After months and months and in reality longer than a year, he got an interview with a place, this particular interview was only about his third interview over a LOONG time. When things have been so dry for so long, small things can get a person excited. We were extremely excited - it is in his field, it would have health insurance, the company does cool stuff that even relates to us personally... so many things were lining up but... "You can't count your chickens before they're hatched" So we determined that we would NOT count our chicken before it hatched so we called the accomplishment of attaining an interview an 'egg.' "It is not a chicken, but WE DO HAVE AN EGG!" Then the one interview turned into a second and we concluded the egg had viable life. The second interview went well so we had an egg that was cracking... was it a chicken or a mess? HE GOT THE JOB! WE HAVE A CHICKEN!
In celebration of my husband's first day of work today, we are having chicken. That is why we have a chicken in our pot!
| I cooked my first turkey. It turned out okay. Quiet Thanksgiving with friends and grandma's china. No shopping. I hate shopping. Especially the chaos of Friday. Just stripped the carcass and making soup for tomorrow. Somehow I have become my mom. Cut my index finger. That stinks. There is much I can do using the one next to it, even tie my shoes. Watching lots of football. I love football. Go Carroll College Saints! You're the only team I root for that is above mediocrity. It is a nice reprieve. Too much school work now. I am overwhelmed. Tomorrow I MUST sit and work on it. Need to push off where I am stuck. Get it done and I'll be very close to getting on to what I want to be studying. Get to work. Glad beyond words that Jerry has been hired. With a company that makes him smile and does cool stuff. With insurance to cover his medically expensive wife. We are relieved and thrilled. Don't ever hit your head. EVER. Gets expensive down the road. And painful. And frustrating. And lots of other bad things. Watching football today. Don't know who is playing. Don't care, really. I love football. Church in the morning, football the rest of the day. I love football. I love church too. Especially the people. | | |

Fun times with my new power tool! Jerry got me a leaf blower for my birthday; yes, I asked for one. I was getting the leaves out of our rock garden and into the yard so I could 'vacuum' them with the lawn mower. Flower beds ready for winter - Check! Lawn ready for winter - Check! Leaves picked up for winter - Check! Porch swing put away for winter - Check! I think I am actually ready for winter.
| The month is wrapping up, not only have I had a good time eating my favorite foods, but I need to get into high gear to finish before November 1. Here is what I have eaten since my last food post:
Red Licorice - given to me as a birthday gift, niiiiiice
Chicken in a Bisket Crackers - family size box was around for a week and a half after grocery shopping.
Popcorn - I have made some at night a couple times, love my popper and keeping it simple keeps it yummy - salt and butter.
Stew - it is the crock pot right now.
Rye Bread - made a sandwich on rye at a conference I was at last week.
White Grape Juice - part of groceries a few weeks back. Not only does it taste good, but it doesn't stain the carpet when spilled.
Fruit Loops - Oh my this one has been fun! It has been decades since I last ate Fruit Loops. I would eat them when I was at sports camps in high school. I got a BIG box and have been eating them all month. I forgot how they slice up my mouth though.
Bananas - one of my favorite foods and I eat them a lot, they're a common item in our fruit basket.
Cliff's Bars - I have eaten a couple while doing radio communications for Search and Rescue. A quick, easy, none messy (please no goo on the microphones) food for on the go.
Belgian Chocolate - WOW! I have a big box that was a birthday gift, I wouldn't have thought this favorite food would have happened this month. Fun surprise.
Chocolates with Stuff inside - a birthday gift that I have relished.
Polish Sausage and Sauerkraut - I made it, too bad my hubby beat me to the left overs. Unfair.
Steak - grilled by my hubby with the special request to go light on the pepper. It was great. We've been given some game meat from friends and we've had some White Tail, elk, and Mule Deer steaks.
Stay tuned for the rest of the Favorite Foods eat down...
